BA - ENGLISH (LINGUISTICS)

Undergraduate Program

Bachelor of Science in English consists of 135 Credit Hours.
The bachelors’ program is designed on a scholarly level, and develops in students a measure of undergraduate foundation within the discipline of English Literary studies. The program introduces students to a scholarly activity in order to provide an avenue towards specialization for those who eventually wish to seek a Masters’ Degree or literary scholarship. To meet these goals, the program develops strong analytical skills and foundation in diverse critical and theoretical approaches. The curriculum of this program has been prepared in a manner which may enable the students to branch out in areas as diverse as law, publishing, editing, journalism, administration, management, communication, or teaching. After completing the program, students would be able to establish broad and multiple perspectives in relation to the society and the world at large; to understand the responsibilities of living in a culturally and ethnically diversified world; to develop enhanced parameters of understanding within which to read, write, and discuss literature and linguistics; to learn the cultural and historical evolution of the English literature; and develop skills in writing, critical thinking, verbal communication, research, and in analyzing and synthesizing texts and data.

During the last five decades at the tertiary level, the number of disciplines under the generic title of social sciences has significantly expanded, along with the expansion in faculty teaching these disciplines.

However, there are a series of crucial questions that are raised by this increase which remain to be answered satisfactorily. These questions include:

Has the quantitative increase in social science disciplines and faculty been accompanied by a corresponding
qualitative change in these disciplines?
To what extent have they absorbed the ethos of science?
To what degree have they developed an interdisciplinary orientation?
How much of their development has been shaped by society, culture, and the state?
What impact has been absorbed from and made on the contemporary social issues prevailing globally?

The establishment of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Greenwich University is an attempt to explore these and other such challenging questions.

Greenwich University gets its inspiration and direction from the Council of Social Sciences, Pakistan, and other such international social and academic bodies which endeavor to face the emerging social challenges to create and maintain a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous world society.
