In the wake of the sweeping tide of globalization, the importance of English
is no longer a matter of individual opinion. It has come to be accepted as
the language of international communication.
We at the English Department do not subscribe to the theory of clash of
civilizations. On the contrary, we believe that the study of English
language and literature can play a major role in countering extremism and
intolerance which, currently, appear to be the bane of our society.
Pluralism, not polarization, is the only answer to all our regional, and
global problems!
In the new world order which has now emerged, Pakistan is poised to play a
major role, as a bridge between the Islamic block and the major industrial
countries of the world. We are firmly of the belief that English language
can play a significant role in cementing heterogeneous relationships among
various countries of the world.
By offering various programs in English language and literature, Greenwich
University attempts to cater to the pressing and rapidly expanding needs of the
community, for graduates and postgraduates, in this important academic area.
It should be carefully noted that the absorption rate of English graduates
in the job market is hundred per cent. And there is not even a single
individual, with a B.A. Honours / Masters degree in English, who is
unemployed in Pakistan – except, by choice!
The English Department is the jewel in the crown of Greenwich University. It
is run under the direct supervision of Prof Dr Rafat Karim, who is one of
the senior most Professors of English in Pakistan and also the Dean, Faculty
of Arts, Greenwich University. |
